Sunday, December 27 - San Diego, CA
We made it! It took
three flights (one leaving on the 25th) going to three different
airports and all 288 of us joining up by 4:30 pm on Saturday. Everything went smoothly and everyone is safe
and still healthy (knock on wood)! The
plane to LA was delayed a bit due to waiting in line for the de-icing truck to
spray it down but we still made it to the hotel on time. What a great group of ambassadors! We received many compliments in the airport
and on the plane regarding how well they are carrying themselves. The hotel is beautiful with an amazing view
of San Diego and the bay. We’re finding
out, however, it is hard to have 288 excited and energetic people (mostly under
the age of 17) be “ninja-like” in the hotel when we come and go and when we are
hanging out. We’re more like a herd of
elephants! There’s a bit of a learning
curve for youth groups that have to share hotel space with other guests who
might not be as excited we’re here as we areJ We’ll get there…
For dinner, we enjoyed a bountiful buffet of savory seafood
at the “Savory Seafood Buffet”. We had
the whole place to ourselves and, boy, where they ready for us! They had plenty of food including prawns,
crawfish, octopus, crab, and sushi. Some
students were quite adventurous trying new things while others hung out in the
safety of the salad bar. The students
are truly having an amazing adventure and it has only just begun! Wish us luck today as we have our first
performance in Balboa Park in the Plaza de Panama.
